It’s time to reminisce about the good, the bad, and the crazy – stripes seem to be in as do metallics and the military theme hasn’t gone away. I have always loved New York Fashion Week as a special reunion for so many of the fashionable freaks that make this industry so wonderful. Of course the tents are once again at the Lincoln Center and most people are pretty accepting of the newish venue. It’s certainly bigger and more accommodating to the crowds of folk who are trying to get into the shows. It seems more than ever, fashion week is less about selling clothes than it is a big PR campaign more concerned with which celebrity is sitting in the front row than what the editors might be saying or buyers buying.

This year I went to a small selection of shows namely the Red Dress Show, Cynthia Rowley, The Academy of the Arts, Jill Stuart, Vivienne Tam, Pamella Roland and The Blonds. I personally go to the shows to feed off the designers inspiration, look for pieces I want to shoot and in general get prepared for what will be presented to me by stylists on set in the coming months.

It’s an interesting time right now, the economy is still tough yet there are many with lots of money to spend so an understated luxury is evident. Asia was a predominant theme probably because most designers are courting the Far East for obvious reasons. One of the fun things I get to do at Fashion Week is go back stage and see the internal workings of each show. Each designer does it a little differently but regardless the atmosphere is always electric.
