Sony CES & Vegas

What do you get when you mix my favorite electronics brand with my favorite trade show whilst staying in Paris……? An extremely amusing couple of days. So I just got back from Vegas where we were staying at the Paris. It was a whistle stop tour for Sony where I was invited to showcase their new range of Cybershots, specifically the HX5. The couple of days consisted of being shuttled around in stretch limos from one rambling casino to another and of course spending plenty of time like a kid in a candy store at the CES Expo. Sony’s staging area at the expo was quite literally a sight to behold. I felt like James Bond as various electronic wizards from Sony handed me one unbelievable piece of equipment followed by another. None of which had been seen or used by anyone and many of which are just prototypes. Some of the new technology the new cybershots take advantage of are transfer jet technology, sweep panorama mode, GPS and compass functions and, for the first time in a Cyber-shot model, the HX5 includes Backlight Correction HDR. The HX5 automatically shoots two frames of the same scene in quick succession, with exposure values optimised for highlights and lowlights respectively. Powerful algorithms then combine the two frames, producing a single, detail-packed HDR image with bright, evenly-exposed highlights and deep shadow detail. Certainly the proud owners of these new point and shoots will have a license to thrill!
In the morning I twittered for Sony answering questions about do and don’ts about photography in general which was a blast as I have never video Twittered before
One of the coolest things that I have advanced ordered were the 3D OLED TVs that require the funny glasses you see me wearing in a couple of shots. It quite literally is like having an IMAX theatre in your home….. one will never leave the living room! Noggin in 3D I can’t wait…….
