Casting Call

Posted on December 25, 2009 - Filed Under Nigel Barker's Beauty Equation

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to see beauty in almost every form. Whether it is on set with a model, at home with my wife and kids or even in the heart of Africa filming Generation Free, I am constantly surprised and confronted with the many elements that make up true beauty. I am excited to say that I am currently authoring my first book on beauty, where I will be able to share these many elements with each of you. Much of the book is complete, but I am presently casting women to be shot for the book’s cover and inside pages. What I am looking for are naturally beautiful women from ages 18 to 26 of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Casting will be by invitation only and will take place on Tuesday, January 5th in New York, New York. All selected women will be asked to attend between 11:30AM and 3:30PM, so you must have this availability in order to submit your application. The photo shoot itself is set for Jan. 11th or 12th and will also take place in New York. You will need to have full availability on these days in order to apply. If interested, I would love for you to submit photos of yourself to my team (none of which are to exceed 200K). Your photos should include one full-body shot in natural light, one headshot in natural light (and with out makeup if possible), and one shot of you in your bathing suit. In addition, be sure to include your age, ethnicity and a little bit about yourself. All submissions should be sent to beauty@studionb.com. If selected, my team and I will be in touch! Happy Holidays.

    Nigel,
I did not see an email on your webpage but I found this form in your blog.
I am emailing today because my son Travis is a huge fan of yours. He is almost 17 and will be a senior next year in high school. He orginally was focusing his studies on music, but since watching the Americas Next Top Model show over the past year, he has developed quite an interest in Photography. I am not sure if it is possible, but I was hoping to get some advice from you on directing Travis for college. I would be happy to give you more information and tell you more about Travis if I have the right email. Please contact me if you would be willing to help.
    Thank you-Tammie

    Nigel -
I so admire your effort to explore beauty in every form and I thought you might be interested in a project I was involved in 2008 called (appropriately) “The Beautiful Women Project” where a photojournalist (Nancy Bruno) explored those things that made selected women feel the most beautiful. The end result was a book called “Beautiful Women: Celebrating Beauty in Stories and Stills” and a travelling photo installation which featured black & white photos of 35 women along with their story of non-traditional beauty. A portion of the book sales were then donated to whatever organization was hosting the photo installation and book signing (most often things like TO LIFE!, Susan G. Komen, and other women-related charities benefitted). It was a very humbling and moving experience and I encourage you to check out the book and/or the website (www.beautifulwomenproject.org. She also recently completed a companion book called “Genuine Men.”

Having said all that, I wish you godspeed with your project and wish you great success.

    All the best,
    Suzi
