Well it is almost “A Time For Heroes” again; the annual fundraising carnival held by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. This year Disney will be running our PSA (airing on my blog too) to help raise awareness and much needed contributions for the foundation’s work around the world.
We went to Tanzania earlier this year with the Foundation and filmed a documentary about their work and efforts in that beautiful country. The film will premiere in September 2009 but in the meantime the 30 second PSA and a couple of short previews of the film will come out to help celebrate the Foundation’s 20th anniversary. Along with the film that we both produced and directed will be an exhibition of still photos and perhaps a book that will further illustrate the situation. The fact is – Due to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation’s extraordinary work and dedication the number of children born HIV + in the USA has plummeted by 90 percent in the past decade. This is not the case in the rest of the world, sadly and unnecessarily. In fact 1000 children a day are born HIV + primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and more than half will die before their 2nd birthday unless treated. The thing is, we have the medicines and treatments right now to stop this. We just need to get them to the people in need. Together we can stop this pandemic in it’s tracks and create a Generation Free of HIV. Stay tuned for updates on the film and exhibition (attached is a preview of just a small selection of photos that will be featured in the exhibit).
