Blossoming Beauties Update!
Posted on March 26, 2009 - Filed Under Blossoming Beauties, Charity, Photography, Press/Interviews
Many of you might remember that I am in the middle of shooting a personal project called, “Blossoming Beauties”. Inspired by my own lovely wife who I enjoyed growing pregnant and humored me whenever (which was always) I wanted to photograph her ever growing belly! I since then put many calls out the public and my friends looking for pregnant ladies who are willing to pose. The exhibition is essentially a celebration of how miraculously wonderful the female body is and the pride and success of how, I believe, a woman should feel during this special time in her life. I am still looking for subjects and what you see here is a select few images of the several dozen women I have now photographed for the project. You can be as revealing as you feel comfortable, although I do ask that you are photographed in the nude only. The shoot is at no cost to the subject. Eventually, and I imagine soon, as the idea has spurred so much interest and participation already – we will produce a book of the images and have an exhibition with the proceeds benefitting a charity that supports women during pregnancy. I am looking for women from all demographics, short – tall, slim – full figured etc., etc. This whole concept is about celebrating you and your unborn, so minimal retouching will be done although, I promise I aim only to make everybody look their best!
Please contact ali@studionb.com (she is my studio manager) if you know of anyone or you, yourself are interested in being photographed. You will need to email a photo or two of you and your belly.

Great portraits and project. You took Leibovitz’s Demi Moore shot to the next level.
Nigel, you are truly an inspiration to a photographer like myself. I shoot mostly wedding photography, but secretly watch America’s Next Top Model, just to see your segment of the show… the photogrpahy, the lighting, the posing, it’s all so incredible!
You are definitely an inspiration in this line of work!
Beautiful photos! I especially love the dancing one.
I think you are amazing and I love antm because of your elegance and class… Not to mention you are sooooo gorgous. I love the way you speak of your wife, its beautiful and this project is amazing and I am sure it will be a success. I have two young boys and almost tempted to have that third child i have been wanting but never found the time between completing my MBA but if i do i will send you a picture for sure. I am no longer married either so a bit difficult.
Lovely. Especially love the group shots and the lady dancing.
All beautiful images. The second one tells an amazing story. What a fantastic project.
wow. I don’t think I have ever seen “group nude matertnity” before. beautifully shot images.
yeah, i’m agree with that lady dancing!
she looks very graceful and fairytale~

I love. Absolutely beautiful.
really eye catching…
beautiful lighting. will you be doing all the photos in studio?
Thats not a man its a beautiful woman with breast cancer that has had a mastectomy Think before you respond
@starbug,
The second photo is a woman who has had a mastectomy.
I believe the second photo is a breast cancer survivor who has had a double mastectomy.
Ummm, that’s not a guy. That’s a woman who has breast cancer.
Not a guy- a woman who had a double masectomy, likely due to breast cancer.
Wow. The second one is breathtaking.
As for the PP, that is a courageous woman battling cancer.
star*bug
Huge scars over the breast area, bald head.. you do the math.
You blithering idiot. That woman (#2) has had double mastectomy and has apparently endured chemo as well. The fact that she is there, pregnant, vibrant, and willing to be photographed is a thing of beauty all its own.
Gorgeous work!
The second photo is a woman who has had a breast amputation. Look at the scar on her chest. Also, she is bold; she likely had chemotherapy.
She is very clearly not a guy.
Bold = bald. My bad.
This is the most BEAUTIFUL interpretation of the human form in pregnancy that I have ever seen. It is so soft and sensitive. I would send my clients to you, as I don’t have a good sense for doing this myself. Beautiul, just beautiful! The comment above puzzles me…a little insensitive, don’t you think? deidre
sorry I have to tell star*bug I am pretty sure it is a beautiful mother who has battled breast cancer. I think it is simply beautiful.
All the woman are beautiful as they bring life to this world. Thank you for sharing.
To: Star*bug…
Um, hi, looks like a woman who had breast cancer!
I think it was a wonderful shot to include. God Bless her for her courage!
such beautiful shots! admire the breast cancer survivor pic. very daring! hope i can shot like you one day…im just starting up.
These pictures are simply exquisite! In my opinion there is nothing more beautiful than women carrying their unborn children. I think “Blossoming Beauties” is a wonderful project–great work!
Great pictures! I love the one of the breast cancer survivor. She truly radiates the essence of a woman.
Beautiful work. The women are just so content and blissful. Can’t wit for the book..it will make a great gift for any expectant mommy.
wow. these are pretty amazing :]
who would’ve thought?
nigel barker, thats who :]
I am wondering whose idea it was for virtually all of the women to cover their breasts? Although I agree that the photography (composition, lighting) is exceptional, the folded-arm-over-breast poses are redundant. This is a terrific concept for a shoot but the repetition of this pose diminishes the overall impact.
That said, the photo of the cancer-defying pregnant woman… there is a lot going on there and you captured it… touching beyond words, frankly, to those of us who know people who have fought that battle.. beautiful work… brought tears to my eyes.
these are stunning! that last shot is simply amazing….beautiful!!!
Just wanted to say that I love all the images in this set, I agree with a previous comment that there is some repitition in the pose but I feel that the similarities add to the strength of the images and allows us to focus on the overall subject of pregnancy
