The life and times of Nigel Barker

HSUS/HSI

In my travels around the globe, I see animals in need. Whether they’re baby seals facing slaughter on the ice floes of Canada or scrawny, mange-ridden street dogs in India, my heart goes out to these creatures.

I’m heartened by the efforts of Humane Society International (HSI), an organization of people dedicated to working with local communities to improve animal welfare, providing disaster relief, promoting improved government policies, and empowering animal advocates worldwide.

During this holiday season, we can all make a difference for animals. HSI makes it easy with Humane Gifts , an online catalog of virtual gifts. By giving a Humane Gift, you can support the important work of HSI while providing meaningful gifts to your friends and family.

With Humane Gifts, you could, for example, help cover the cost of spaying and neutering cats in the Caribbean or buy food and medicine for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in Latin America. There are dozens of gifts to choose from, so it’s easy to find something for everyone on your list. And you can send a personalized e-card to the recipient to let them know about the life-saving work you’ve funded in their honor.

If you pick any of the “Protect Seals” gifts, you can send an e-card with one of the photographs I took in March when I accompanied the HSI Protect Seals team to the ice to capture the beauty of the harp seal pups and their mothers (just prior to witnessing the horror of the commercial seal hunt).

I hope you’ll share my concern for animals in all regions of the world and do your holiday shopping with Humane Gifts this year.

I think a good idea is to buy a piece of a rain forest. So that certain companies won’t destroy more of our beautiful earth.

keep up the good work Mr Barker.
