Fashion Week

This Fashion Week I decided to do things a little differently. I’ve been involved with fashion weeks all around the world for years now, first when I used to model in Europe and now as a guest here in NYC. It’s a lot of fun for me and although it can feel like an extremely long week, I always enjoy myself and reconnect with old friends and colleagues. As a photographer I get to see what the designers are thinking and feeling for the new season, which in turn helps me formulate stories for upcoming editorials I am shooting. I don’t just photograph what’s put in front of me but enjoy really getting into how my photos are styled and made up.
This Fashion week like last season we are at war, in a recession and in an election year. However there is change in the air and a renewed hope that I felt was reflected at this fashion week. Hem lines were lower, colors were muted and there was an overall conservatism in the air despite the fact they were spring/summer collections. That said there were signs of optimism, hope and excitement – flashes of bright orange, Egyptian blue and show stopping red peeking out from layered sheer fabrics that you think would reveal but actually kept you covered……… This season I teamed up with The Make A Wish Foundation and my front row dates were young girls whose wishes were to go to fashion week and see the shows. I got to bring the girls backstage to meet the designers and introduce them to many of the fabulous fashionistas that frequent the tents. It was truly refreshing to share the experience with these fresh, un-jaded ladies and I must say I enjoyed fashion week much more than usual!
I also had my exhibition opening at Bloomingdales downtown called “Moon Warriors” ( you can read about that below). One of the highlights for me was being seated next to Bette Midler at the Jill Stuart show at the Public Library – Jill’s collection was also gorgeous as usual!
