Not just a GRAM of Avedon

The Grand Rapids Art Museum in Michigan recently asked me if I would host and give a lecture on none other than famed photographer Richard Avedon. I will be giving a talk about how I think Avedon inspired a generation and his ability to capture the essence of humanity in a single frame. The lecture on October 2nd will be a members only affair but you can become a member by calling 616 831 2912. The exhibition titled, Richard Avedon: Larger Than Life is open to the public and starts on the 3rd of October thru to January 4th, 2009.
As a promo for the exhibition I was asked to shoot a commercial spot. We decided to shoot an Avedon inspired short that opens with a famous Avedon quote: “If a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it’s as though I’ve neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up.” Of course we went with the classic white background that Avedon is known for. What do you think?

I’ve looked through some of your blog and may say that it is very inspiring for a young hobbyphotographer like myself. What was most interesting to read about, was your entire project with the seals. At some point, you may be able to come here to Sweden and display your pictures? :]
I will keep following your blog!
Nigel,
Just today I received a phone call from GRAM informing me that I won the contest to meet you at the event on the 2nd. Due to a recent friend’s death, I am unable to make it on Thursday.
Since I won’t be there to tell you in person… you have been such an inspiration to me. Thank you for bringing such a fresh approach to photography. I’ll continue to follow your work and hopefully, someday, meet you in person.
