The life and times of Nigel Barker

Catching up

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks since we came back from Haiti and my last blog update. Essentially as soon as we arrived back from Haiti I packed my family up and we left New York for Los Angeles to start shooting cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model. Talk about reality check, one moment I am in the Cite Soleil slum in Port Au Prince and the next I am judging 12 hopefuls with dreams of becoming a top model!!!! Life is strange and it certainly grounds one to see such extremes.
So you know about Haiti from my blog entry below, my big news now is that we discovered my wife and I are having another baby !!!! We are thrilled at our imminent new arrival and are moving apartment this month in preparation.

Crissy and Jack love being in Santa Monica as we take a house with a garden and are very close to the beach which is a luxury and a great change from the urban jungle of NYC. In LA we shot a fashion story for Zink Magazine in Death Valley coming out in the Fall fashion Issue in September,

the cover and story for American Photo magazine also for their Fall fashion/September issue

and of course filmed ANTM 11. While in LA I was invited to help out at the “Time For Heroes” carnival. This is a fund raiser I have been involved with in NYC and LA that raises money for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. It is a great cause and a fun day for the whole family.

In mid june we flew back to NYC for 2 days before jetting off to the “secret” abroad location for ANTM 11…….. We pit stopped in NYC as it was the Make A Wish Foundation’s 25th annual Gala and I was hosting the event. The MAW is an organization that grants wishes for children who have and/or are suffering from life threatening illness.

I have been a wish granter for several years now and I must say it has been my wish that has been granted just to be involved with such a fantastic bunch of people. I also squeezed in a Gen Art photo competition that I judged called “My Life In Smiles” in association with Crest Whitestrips – my life in smiles……

So we are back in NYC now and have our own fundraiser and awareness photo exhibit in conjunction with the HSUS coming up. It will be running from July 24-27th at the 401 Projects in Greenwich Village. Stay tuned for more on the exhibit – it will be free to the public.

    Wow… busy…busy

    So here I go…

First, many congrats on the new coming addition to your family… I actually found out about it around the time of the Kentucky Derby… just wasn’t sure at the time. I am extremely happy for you guys. BTW… when I’m pregnant I hope I look as good as Crissy!

Second, Death Valley… yikes! I hope you were there at 5 am.

    Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation:
Very fun event and a great cause! I have attended with a friend in the past. Please tell Crissy I love her Diane Von Furstenberg dress… I have one too!

    Make A Wish Foundation:
    I wish I could grant a wish too…

    Life in Smiles:
My favorite is the sky diving picture!

    Sealed Fate:
I WANT TO SEE IT! Really hoping it will come to Los Angeles. Because I will literally miss the exhibit in NYC by exactly one week! I’m from LA and have finally gotten the time off work to go on vacation… so it’s NYC for a week. I am extremely excited as I have never been. However, a week too late… talk about a sealed fate!

    Congratulations on the new babe!
Is “Sealed Fate” going to tour in Canada? I am attending UVic and Camosun College here in Victoria and I’m pretty sure that it would be right up the alley of the Student Union theatre to show it. Last year there was a showing of “An Inconvenient Truth” and there was a huge interest in it. Just a thought.
