Aged Two Weeks and the Day Before the Hunt…

Posted on March 27, 2008 - Filed Under Charity, Modeling Q & A, NB Videos, Nigel Barker Today, Personal Picts, Photography, Travel Shoots

One of the many excuses used by the seal hunters and the Canadian
government is that the white-coat seals are not actually killed so
all the photos and media around the cute babies is misleading…….
so as you know I was up on the ice floes photographing the white-
coats two weeks ago and am back here now to photograph them aged two
weeks and sadly will be documenting the hunt too. As you can see from
my photos below the seals are still cute and adorable in various
states of molt. The sealers are able to club or shoot the seals aged
12 days onwards as soon as they start to shed their white fur. I
think we can all agree that at 2 weeks old they are still babies no
matter how quickly they mature and once again these beautiful coats
look much better on them then they could possibly look on us!
We should be celebrating these animals and Canada should be
showcasing them as creatures of national pride. Just like whaling was
ended in Canada, and there is now a multi-million dollar whale watching
business, so could there be a lucrative eco-tourism opportunity with
the seal population. I personally have had one of the most awe
inspiring times on the ice with the seals and will be forever moved
by the experience.
If you haven’t signed the pledge to stop the seal hunt please do now

and continue to boycott Canadian
seafood. We have the the power to stop this…………..

They are sooo cute! I laughed so hard that I think everyone at work around me noticed. Hope I don’t get in trouble. I’ve been sneeking peaks at your blog while at work since monday waiting for the latest news. Thanks for the post!

The pictures of the baby seals are so beautiful! They are so adorable with those big eyes. I know that someday soon this hunt will end. I will not see any after photos of the baby seals because I have seen them all and seen the footages. Thank you Nigel for your wonderful photography. I just cant stop crying over these babies. I too would love to meet you sometime. Maybe at one of the seal rallies here in Washington DC? I work several blocks from the Canadian Embassy so I cringe every time I pass by it.

Nigel – I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this. It’s so much easier to close our eyes and it takes a truly unique person to do what you’re doing. You are very much appreciated :0)

    Nigel,

How can I, as a college student, get involved in the fight against the Canadian seal hunts?

    Nigel,

I cannot thank you enough for what you are doing to help these baby seals. IT is such a sad world we live in where greed, style, and money the reasons for such barbaric behavior. Sadly, the people who should be paying attention to this, and aren’t, are the wealthy whose vanity is responsible for these brutal murders. The blood is not only on the hands of the hunters, but on the hands of the people who design, manufacture, and wear the fur of animals.

THANK YOU, Nigel. These pictures are gorgeous and perhaps with your continued help this year will be the last year of a “tradition” that doesn’t belong in this century. You are a strong person, mentally and physically, to go through this journey….my heart and others go out to you. You truly are a good human being. THANK YOU THANK YOU.

    Dear Nigel,

It truly saddens me the amount of cruelty we, as humans, have towards other living creatures, (and ourselves). I am so glad there are devoted people like yourself and your crew that make every effort to stop this craziness. I find it disgusting that these innocent creatures are being killed in such a barbaric way and at all for that matter.

How do the men that do this wake up every morning knowing they are going to kill these beautiful seals and think that this is OK? I just don’t understand.

Thank you for not supporting fur in the fashion industry. I only wish more would follow your way. My favorite quote by Jeremy Bentham, says it all:

“The question is not, ‘Can they reason?’ nor ‘Can they talk?’ but rather, ‘Can they suffer?’ ”

    We know they do.

Thank you so much Nigel, I have signed the pledge and WILL NOT support this cruelty.

I have written letters to the prime minister and restaurants about this hunt. I am glad someone famous is helping. Us little people can help by writing and banning Canada items.

Thanks Nigel, your not just a pretty face!!

    Sweet Nigel,
I remember as child back in the 70’s a film showing the brutal killing of these creatures.
As I watched I heard the mothers of these seals crying out with desperation, it did no good, no one was listening, or had a soul to even care.

The pictures showed the ice field of red, as far as you could see… I was shocked into reality at that moment in time, frozen with shear terror that I could be in the same species as these two legged, club welding murders.
As a mother, I am crying out…and I can’t believe no one is listening.
Thank you for giving your heart out to the world you live in…You will not be forgotten.

Thank you for lending your position in the fashion industry and skills in photography to this cause. I hope that your efforts generate a groundswell of support to ban seal clubbing. At any age, these animals do not deserve the barbaric death they meet at the hand of the hunters. We have got to be more evolved than this.

I strongly support this work you are doing. Keep it up and thanks!

Thank you for using your celebrity to bring attention to this ghastly trade. They are babies. It is heartbreaking.

  18. linda howe on April 12th, 2008 4:48 pm

    Dear Nigel,

I LOVE YOU! Each and every year I get this oeverwhelming sense of dread, knowing these stunning babies will be brutalized. Although I have made my calls, sent donations, purchased merchandise, collected petitions, attended protests, sent emails, I feel still completely hopeless and ineffective in trying to put this insanity to a close. Thank God for compassionate and loving souls like yourself who will surely make a difference. I have hope the slaughter will end…because of individuals like you. God Bless You!

    Good Morning Nigel,

    PLEASE HELP US!!!

As a Canadian I feel so hopeless, this government is in such support of this hunt I feel it is hopeless. I have written letters I have gotten mad,sad then angry. Just so everyone knows the majority of Canadians do not support this hunt. There is probably a 80/20 % split. The government is not listening to the majority vote. We need outside help. Please do not give up help us and let’s stomp our feet together.

    Dear Nigel,

What can I do, besides boycotting Canadian seafood, to help stop the terrorism against baby seals? It would be an honor to fight this horrible slaughter of innocent creatures!

    Peace,

    Claudia, USA

Thank you for using your status to bring attention to this tragedy. This is a horribly barbaric tradition and hopefully the masses are now being heard.

    Dear Nigel,

You have proven to be a true man in so many ways. I and my family thank you so very much for doing all that you do to try and protect these adorable pups. My heart goes out to you~ That you are involved and with your popularity, I am most certain that this will be noticed so much more than it is.

I applaud you for all of your efforts~

  23. Jae on April 27th, 2008 5:48 pm

They’re gorgeous! I wish people would have a heart and stop stripping these helpless creatures. As you said, synthetics are good enough, and hopefully your stand will bring great attention to these senseless killings.

    Bless,
    Jae

    Dear Nigel,

I am really impressed with the beauty these animals have. It is a gisgrace what these people will do. They should think about how they would feel if this was done to their family members. It is a great injustice to brutalize these helpless creatures. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the help you have brought to save these helpless pups. Thanks again for all your efforts.

Nigel, I want to applaud you for what you do! It is truly an embarrassment to mankind what these hunters do and I agree that this horrific act needs to be put to an end. I stand behind what you do 100% and just wanted to tell you this. Email me sometime!
