Miami Heart Gallery

Last weekend my team and I went down to Florida to take photos of
foster kids for the Children’s Trust Miami Heart Gallery. We were
meant to fly out Friday evening but due to a huge snow storm that hit
New York we had to postpone our flight until 6 am Saturday morning.
Which of course meant getting up at 4 am but knowing how important
this trip was we were all in great spirits if only a little sleepy.
Arriving in Miami was like landing in a sauna especially since we
just left NYC which was 23 degrees. We were immediately whisked off
to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens to photograph the kids.
The kids we shot are characterized as difficult to place due to their
age………. but age should mean nothing. All the children we met
and photographed were fantastic kids that just wanted to have a
family to love them. Our aim was to take photos of them that would
ultimately result in helping them get adopted.
As a photographer I have had many different subjects but none as
important as these. As a father I cannot imagine my son without a
family so as you can imagine it was a very moving day. Our job was to
produce pictures that really captured the kids sense of hope, trust
and confidence. We made jokes, laughed and hugged and I managed to
get lovely shots of our beautiful subjects. The next pictures I hope
to take of them will be with their new parents.

Wow Nigel! Thats so awesome!
Adoption is very close to my heart as my mom was adopted at birth and I, not knowing my biological father, was adopted by my step-dad at a young age.
I have much respect for you!
Any plans on attending Fashion at The Park in Dallas at the end of the month??

Quick questions…. does it hurt to be so kind hearted and awesome?
Hey babes! Again, thank you SO MUCH for your constant grace, dry British humor
but most of all for your sincere and tender embrace of this wonderful project. You treated each one of those childen like stars. One of the supervisors said “this whole experience has been a role model for these children. They will never forget it”. Know that you are loved in Miami and that your eager participation will make a real, postive impact in the lives and outlook on the kids featured in the Miami Heart Gallery. Can’t wait to have Cuban coffee with you Ali and Marcus again. Ciao!
you have done a great job capturing them…. my best wishes to your models infinding loving families
