The life and times of Nigel Barker

Fashion Week 2008

Posted on February 13, 2008 - Filed Under Modeling Q & A, Nigel Barker Today, Personal Picts, Studio NB

The Fall Collections for 2008 came and went at Bryant Park last week
with all the usual fashion week craziness. The freaks &
fashionistas were out in full force and the 8 days seemed like a month!
Fashion once again made some poignant statements -Earth Pledge Future
Fashion launched the shows on Thursday night. The Future Fashion show
was a mash-up of 30 different looks from 30 well known designers
(Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein, DVF … just to name a
few) who were all supporting the initiative to educate and
demonstrate that being “green” can be fashionable too. All of the
fashions in the show were made of sustainable materials like organic
cotton, organic wool, corn fibers, recycled fabrics, natural dyes,
and other eco-friendly goods. Then of course The Heart Truth
celebrated it’s sixth year at the tents commemorating the
groundbreaking partnership with America’s fashion industry to bring
the Red Dress to life in the national effort to raise awareness about
women and heart disease. And I too made a personal stand as a new
spokesperson for the Save The Seals chapter of the Humane Society.
You can read more about that in my blogs below.
All in all it was another inspiring week and my favorite shows this
season were Mara Hoffman, Betsey Johnson, Pamella Roland, Rock &
Republic, Miss Sixty, Nautica, Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka and
Carlos Miele.

Nigel, I am totally committed to your campaign for the seals, and have been since I first saw this on the news when I was a teenager back in the late ’60s. But can you help out with the slaughter of foxes here in the US? Foxes are skinned alive and they are treated cruelly up until the time they are killed. We need to do something about helping find ways to, at the very least, treat them humanely and euthanize them before they are skinned. I don’t know what to do to help these poor animals who suffer at the hands of cruel men on a daily basis. It is a sight that haunts me every day. Please help!

I am absolutely awed by your commitment to help the seals. Kudos to you, Nigel, for your selflessness and compassion.

    Hi Nigel,
Missed seeing you at Fashion Week this February. I hope you received my magazine, the “iExisT” issue.
And thank you for what you are doing about the seals. My magazine will be in Canadian stores soon, hopefully by April. I hope I can run an ad for the Humane Society International to raise awareness about this issue even more. Those seals need our protection. Any advice from you or anyone else is greatly appreciated.

What can we do to help save the seals?
I am also indignated for what is happening and I would like to know how to help.
    Thank you
