you are bloody awesome mate

Nigel-
I saw ANTM by accident at first and now I am slightly hooked. Currently I have a successful career in medicine, but now I have diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. Under the encouragement of my physician he has suggested a slighly different career where you are not exposed to the most ill people still alive which puts me at risk. After much thought and angst I have been considering walking away from my career in medicine and possibly attempting a career in photography (don’t worry I do love to travel to exotic places).
If you had any advice, ideas, helpful thoughts about getting started in photography that would be so helpful. Possibly suggesting some schools of photography that have a good reputation.
What would help me the most might be able to help in your studio as an apprentice/ or another helpful pair of hands. Observing someone’s work I respect would be the best experience I could think of. Any advice along the way would be very welcomed! After working in medicine you develop a very good hard work ethic in dealig with stress, high intensity, and long hours, so I am willing to help with anything.
I can’t believe you are in New York and not in London since that was my favorite destinatin when I was backpacking in Europe and living with a German family for a summer. Boarding the boat back to France made me so sad!!!
I hope free help from me in your studio is a tempting offer. I am green, but I do learn fast. In medicine it is always see one, do one, then teach one.Thank you for being a great role model for photographers and bringing them out from behind the camera.

As I was reading through your blog, I stumbled on this interview and was stunned that you mentioned Alabama as a favorite vacation spot! It’s nice to know our little state appeals to a world traveler.
